Generate the English Translation Sentence

We generate English translation sentences by using the Japanese-English word dictionary and the Japanese-English translation patterns. The English translation sentences are made as follows.

Step 1

Select Japanese translation patterns corresponding to the input Japanese sentence.

Step 2

Find the variables in the Japanese translation patterns and obtain the Japanese words corresponding to the variables.

Step 3

Obtain the English translation patterns corresponding to the Japanese translation patterns.

Step 4

Find the variables in English translation patterns and search for the English words corresponding to the variables.

Step 5

Replace variables in English translation patterns with the English word (Step 4).

Step 6

If the result of step 5 is that multiple English translation sentences are output, select only one sentence by referring to a English word tri-gram. These tri-grams are calculated from the Japanese-English sentence pairs.

Figure 2 shows an example of generating a English translation sentence.
