Synthesis experiment

To confirm the performance of the new method, we started from a small set of words. 600 Japanese city and town names with five moras were selected and recorded by a narrator. These samples were recorded at 16KHz sampling rate and quantized as 16bits linear. By manual labeling, 2,810 syllables were extracted including some prolonged ones. Compression of the syllables by eliminating the same syllabic components extracted from different words yielded a set of 1,549 syllabic components. This set of components could generate 3,167 existing Japanese city or town names with five moras.
