Synthesis stage

When a word not included in the minimum word set is to be synthesized, its segmented syllable information is determined. A series of syllabic components are then selected from the database that match the boundary conditions indicated in P and N of the syllabic components, and their waveforms are simply concatenated to produce the synthesized word. For example, we describe the process of synthesizing the city name ``yokokawashi''. ``yokokawashi'' is divided into five syllables as $\{{\rm yo}(,/k/)_{1,5},$ ${\rm shi}(/a/,)_{5,5}\}$. Though the first and last syllabic components in ``yokohamashi'' can be used in the synthesis of the word ``yokokawashi'', the second syllable cannot be used because N is different from the required one. The syllabic components needed for this synthesis are selected from among the other words in the minimum word set.
